Every mother longs to hear her child’s first words. Some moms wait longer than others – autism often affects the speech centers of the brain, and children who are affected can have speech delays or be completely non-verbal. (Although not all children on the autism spectrum have speech problems – some, like my oldest, are quite articulate. Others speak, but need reminders sometimes.)

Meeting Non-Verbal Mickey

This week, Walt Disney World ran a very limited test of talking Mickey at Town Square Theater. The first time I saw this video on the Disney Parks Blog my first thought was “He used words!” I knew I had to share this, in support of all those kids who finally, after months or years of silence, use their words too.

I hope this program comes out of its limited test and is available to everyone by the time we return!
