Disney Dining Tips for Special Dietary Needs

“What are we going to eat?” is a major question for any family on vacation, but when you add in food allergies and special diets, it becomes a lot more crucial. It’s no secret that we’re devoted foodies around here, or that there are certain foods that we don’t go anywhere near. With a family of 6, Celiac Disease, nut allergy, mollusk allergy, and “I only eat these 5 foods”-itis, here are my top Disney dining tips for families with special dietary needs. There are three basic levels of Disney dining: Table Service, Quick Service, and Snacks. They’re all delicious (of course!), but they all have their quirks. I’ll show you how to navigate all three. Disney Table Service Dining with Special Diets Table service dining is the most expensive of the dining options at Walt Disney World. It includes any sit-down restaurant where a cast member comes to...

Welcome Home

Welcome to those of you joining me from Magical Mouse Schoolhouse and those of you just hopping aboard. I am the 2nd stop on our Magical Blogorail. Welcome Home I’m not sure there are any more powerful words than “Welcome #8221; And I’ll be completely honest, that little phrase both flew right over my head when we checked into the Port Orleans Riverside, and caught my attention at the same time. In my defense, it was 9:00 at night, we hadn’t had dinner, and were exhausted. I just wanted food and bed. I didn’t realize it at the time, but that phrase was a hint of things to come. For me, home is a place where things work. You can relax and be your best self, because you’re not constantly trying to keep things from falling apart. Home is clean and orderly, well-maintained, and has plenty to do – and...

Choosing Our Resort

Lately, I’ve been in the early planning stages of our next two vacations. Early next year (or possibly late this year, if I can work it out!) we’ll spend a long weekend at Walt Disney World without the kids. Crazy, huh? Then later next year we’ll do a big family trip. The big question I need to answer right now is “which resort?” For our family trip, I’m just looking for something with enough space to accomodate a family of 6. While I’ve always been dubious about the value resorts, the Art of Animation does look interesting, and doesn’t seem to be as gaudy as the other value resorts. It may work for us. For our solo trip, however, I’m looking for something nice. We stayed at the Port Orleans, Riverside in 2010, and it was beautiful. I’d like to stay somewhere else next time, to explore somewhere new....

Disney World Without the Kids

Lately, I’ve been in the early planning stages of our next vacation. Actually, our next two vacations! We’re hoping to pull off a long weekend without the kids sometime in early 2013, and a longer family vacation next Fall. Planning two separate vacations is a balancing act between budget wrangling and deciding where we want to go. We looked at a cruise for our solo trip, or possibly an adults-only resort somewhere in the Caribbean, and while those options were certainly enticing – and the brochures breathtaking! – we decided to go back to Walt Disney World. Just the two of us, without the kids! (Can you tell, I’m a little excited about that prospect?) Why go to Disney World for our adults-only vacation? Why drop our kids off at the grandparents’ only to go somewhere where we’ll be surrounded by other people’s kids? There are a lot of great...

Obsession Is Such a Strong Word

Welcome to those of you joining me from Magical Mouse Schoolhouse and those of you just hopping aboard. I am the 3rd stop on our Magical Blogorail. This month, we’re sharing our one Disney obsession. What’s my ONE Disney obsession? I get a little crazy about my resort coffee mugs – which are getting sadly scratched and beat up. But then again, I’ve had Disney coffee mugs since I was a teenager, so that’s nothing new. I don’t really get all that excited about Disney movies, or Mickey Mouse paraphernalia, or Disney pins. Disney food, maybe?  A strong contender! But the one thing I come back to, over and over . . . the reason I started writing this blog: Disney resorts. The whole immersive experience of a Disney resort vacation. That magic that combines great theming, world-class food, attractions, and everything else . . . that’s my one Disney obsession....
