Getting Creative with Disney Imagicademy {Review}

Welcome to the third post in our winter boredom busters series, sponsored by Wonder Forge Games! Today we’re playing with two Disney Imagicademy activity kits designed for younger kids Disney Imagicademy Frozen Science Disney Imagicademy Storymation Studio Since the boys got to geek out on Star Wars last week, and seem to have an odd allergy to all things Frozen (Let it Go, guys!), This time it was just us girls – and we had a BLAST! First up: Frozen Science activity kit. It comes with an activity book full of puzzles and science experiments that my daughter was able to do all by herself. The kit comes with a variety of colored pencils, stickers, a mister, rainbow glasses, and colored dye tabs for use in one of the experiments. I really liked that none of the experiments involved materials that I didn’t have on hand, and they really challenged...

Expedition Everest — Legend of the Forbidden Mountain

I’m taking over Tricia’s blog today while she has Returned to Disney, so let’s pop over to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park for a wild adventure on one of my favorite attractions in all of Walt Disney World Resort. Expedition Everest—Legend of the Forbidden Mountain was added to Disney’s Animal Kingdom in 2006, bringing a second weinie to the Park and giving thrill seekers a reason to visit. It also helped reinforce the Park’s claim that it is most definitely “NotAZoo.” After all, what zoo features a 199-foot tall mountain range, a 50-mph train, and a real Yeti? Disney Parks weinies are the things that are symbolic of each park – Cinderella Castle, Tree of Life, Spaceship Earth are some others. The word is one of Walt’s own! He described those things/buildings/symbols as being as integral to a theme park as hot dogs (or as he called them, weinies). This...

Disney’s Friends for Change

Yesterday, Dr. Jane Goodall presented the Walt Disney Company with the Jane Goodall Global Leadership Award for protecting wildlife and nature. It would be so easy for a company like Disney to say “It’s not my job to save the #8221; After all, they’re an entertainment company! They make movies, run theme parks and hotels, and other fluff. It would be easy to leave the hard work of environmentalism and conservation to the hippies. But that wouldn’t be Disney, would it? If Disney does one thing, and does it well, it’s going over the top and exceeding expectations. Animal Kingdom is a great source of edu-entertainment. But it doesn’t end there. The Disney Conservation Fund awards grants to local conservation projects all over the world. This morning I discovered yet another way that Disney uses its influence to help create a better world for us all: Disney’s Friends for...

We Can Do It, We Can Do It . . .

Every girl has her favorite princess, and while I love and respect Belle and Tiana, and Rapunzel is growing on me, I’ve always been inspired by Cinderella. She does what she has to do, and does it without ever letting the world beat her down. And in the end, the magic happens and she meets her Prince – but her history and her grace is what takes that meeting beyond a polite hello. It’s Friday, and we start homeschool on Monday. Am I ready? No….not even close. I’m going to need a small army to get the classroom reorganized, the materials for projects assembled and ready to go, and so on. I could blame it on the crazy summer we’ve had with Patrick being so sick, but the truth is I’ve just been plain distracted. I love homeschooling, I love the time I get to spend with my kids...

Tracking Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund Projects

Disney is well-known for their conservation efforts inside the Animal Kingdom. With the help of park guests, they also fund conservation projects around the world. You can contribute to the fund in a variety of ways: Add a dollar or more to your purchase of food or souvenirs inside Disney’s Animal Kingdom Attend An Untamed Lunch at Animal Kingdom Lodge Purchase reusable bags and other specified items at other Walt Disney World parks and resorts, or on the Disney Cruise Line. Disney has teamed up with Google Earth to showcase the efforts of local groups supported by the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund: Download the Google Earth browser plugin, then go to the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund Google Earth map. Search by animal, or just browse around to find out what projects are being done in your own backyard. I plan on leaving this open on the computer for the kids to find...
