Bringing Disney Home

Bringing the Haunted Mansion Home for Halloween

I just had to share this project – not that I have time to make it, but it’s amazing nonetheless! A 3-D model of the Haunted Mansion at Liberty Square, made entirely of paper: Ray Keim, creator of these incredible paper models, is also a member of the Halloween Horror Nights design team at Universal Orlando. He has also created free paper model design kits for the Haunted Mansion in New Orleans Square: and the Phantom Manor at Disneyland Paris: Check out more of Ray Keim’s paper models – including Leota and Master Gracey’s tombstones at Haunted Dimensions. As an added bonus, Disney Parks published instructions for the Hitchhiking Ghosts! What do you think – would you (or maybe the kids) attempt one of these projects? I’d love to do an entire paper village of these models! Pin It

Disney-Inspired Recipes

Fall Flavors of Disneyland

Those of you who have read Return to Disney for a while have probably picked up on my love of really good food. I don’t have as much time to explore new recipes as I’d like, but I do get my foodie fix. Today I’d like to share with you some of my favorite Fall Flavors inspired by Disneyland – my “home park” growing up: Pumpkin Beignets from Disneyland’s most exclusive address: Club 33. You can find the recipe on the Disney Parks Blog. I’m looking forward to making these next weekend! We’re planning a day trip, and these will be a great grab-and-go breakfast. I might leave off the maple glaze to avoid sticky fingers in the car! Haunted Mansion – in cake! I’ve wanted to make this three-tiered cake for years, but haven’t had the opportunity – yet! Alex has chosen a haunted castle as his birthday...

Welcome to Flashback Friday!

It’s Friday. Finally. Time to relax a bit and Flashback Friday is a perfect way to do it! Thanks to Sarah Gillanders at Magical Days with the Mouse for putting it together. I generally tend to think of our September 2010 trip to Walt Disney World as my “first #8221; It was the first time I went to the Florida parks. But….I grew up in Southern California (well, mostly). We moved to Los Angeles in 1985, when I was 8 years old. Before that, we lived in a tiny ranching community in the mountains of Northern California, about 50 miles from the Oregon border. I will always remember that first summer we lived “down #8221; My parents and adult sister took me to all the iconic places – Sea World, the Zoo, Knotts Berry Farm, and of course, Disneyland. I’m pretty sure there are no surviving pictures of me at that...
