Disney’s Friends for Change

Yesterday, Dr. Jane Goodall presented the Walt Disney Company with the Jane Goodall Global Leadership Award for protecting wildlife and nature. It would be so easy for a company like Disney to say “It’s not my job to save the #8221; After all, they’re an entertainment company! They make movies, run theme parks and hotels, and other fluff. It would be easy to leave the hard work of environmentalism and conservation to the hippies. But that wouldn’t be Disney, would it? If Disney does one thing, and does it well, it’s going over the top and exceeding expectations. Animal Kingdom is a great source of edu-entertainment. But it doesn’t end there. The Disney Conservation Fund awards grants to local conservation projects all over the world. This morning I discovered yet another way that Disney uses its influence to help create a better world for us all: Disney’s Friends for...

What’s the Deal with D23?

Have a Very Happy Thursday everyone! Thursdays are always happy around here, because Thursday is Blog Hop day! Welcome to everyone stopping by from the Babes in Disneyland Blog Hop. It’s always great to see old friends, and to meet new ones. Our theme today is the D23 expo, happening this weekend in Anaheim, California. D23 is the official Disney fan club, encompassing everything Disney from TV and movies, theme parks, merchandise and more. D23 Silver Membership costs $ per year. D23 Gold Membership costs $ per year. The D23 expo is a yearly gathering of Disney fans – both D23 members and non-members – from all over the world. Princess Lessons

It’s early August and that means it’s time to start serious school preparations. Two weeks until the first day of school! As a homeschooling parent, I’m parent, teacher, and administrator of our little school. No pressure 🙂 One of the perks of homeschooling is that we have the time and focus to address all aspects of our kids’ lives as part of school. This year, Princess will begin preschool and one of our goals for her is that maturity leap from self-centered toddler toward empathetic, reasonable child. And I found a great resource to help her do it! She’s answered to Princess from the day she was born, so why not use that identity to help her learn more princess-like behavior? I found a great resource from Disney: A Disney Princess Primer. Cinderella reminds little princesses not to interrupt, Aurora teaches princess vocabulary like “Please” and “Thank You” and Pocahontas explains...

Together Again!

It’s Thursday, and that means it’s time for the Babes in Disneyland Blog Hop! Our theme this week is both simple and elusive: Joy. It’s very timely for me, because as many of you know, I’ve been blogging from a hospital room for the past month while one of our boys battled a serious illness. We brought him home on Sunday, and picked the other kids up Tuesday afternoon. This week has been crazy with getting everyone settled back in, follow up appointments, and so on, but it has also been a joyful one because we’re all back together again. To celebrate, I’d like to share one of my favorite Disney moments – one of the the ones where we’re all together. Somehow, I’ve noticed there’s something extra in the group pictures that’s missing in photos of one of the kids alone. Their individual personalities shine through, but there’s...
