Bringing Disney Home

Haunted Mansion at Home

It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of Disney’s Haunted Mansion. I love the suspension of disbelief, the ability to leave reality at the door and believe, whole-heartedly, in ghosts. I also love that when Disney set out to create a haunted house, they started with a story and let the setting flow naturally from that. I avoid most haunted houses because they rely on cheap thrills – gore and startle effects – instead of digging deeper and finding the story that will entice you to keep coming back. This weekend, our family spent the afternoon checking out the two Halloween stores in town, and as usual I gravitated toward the decorations. I’d love to be able to really deck out the house in gothic chic, but as usual, Practicality sticks its nose where it’s not wanted! But this year, I’ve finally figured out a way around the...

Disney Infinity Preview

Around 4:30 yesterday afternoon, I got an email from Disney Interactive advertising their newest offering. About three minutes later, I got a second email from my husband telling me, in no uncertain terms, that I simply had to drop everything and check it out. Considering I was kinda busy trying to get everybody to their activities at that point, and frantically clicking “approve” on comments to yesterday’s interview with Jenni James (BTW – you have until Friday to enter to win a signed copy of Beauty and the Beast!), I didn’t. Drop everything, that is. I did check out the Disney Infinity trailer this morning though, and it looks pretty interesting…nothing really innovative here, but still worth a second look when the game comes out in June. The basic idea here is that you have Disney character action figures – it looks like the first set will include characters from...

Alfredo a la Epcot

Thank Goofy It’s Friday – and it’s time to relax, enjoy a good meal, and recapture a little of the magic that gets lost in the chaos of the week. And let me tell you, this week has been chaotic! I spent most of the week arranging a cruise for some old friends, and was able to get them some extra perks thrown in for fun. (I actually have 4 more staterooms set aside, so if you’re thinking of escaping next February drop me a note and I’ll get you the details!) This is a reprise of a post I wrote several months ago, when the Foodie Friday concept first popped onto my blogging radar. I love getting to share my other first love – cooking – with a healthy dose of Disney thrown in for fun, and getting to share it with you! On the menu today: Alfredo...

Face Paint Scars

With Halloween two weeks from today, I’ve got transformations on the mind! I start asking the kids in early September what they want to be for Halloween. I remember so many years when I was a kid, when I wouldn’t make a decision until a few days before and my mother scrambling to put something together for me. There’s a family tradition I’m happy to break! This year, Princess Cinderella will return to the family, but that’s the extent of the Disney theming (unless you count the haunted mansion-inspired birthday cake!) Alex has decided to go undead this year, which would be great had I not gotten rid of all the jeans with holes in them a few months ago! Oh well, I’m sure we’ll find something appropriate. The face paint, however, kinda had me stumped. Knowing Alex, he’ll want to go as gruesome as possible. Then I found...

Fall Flavors of Disneyland

Those of you who have read Return to Disney for a while have probably picked up on my love of really good food. I don’t have as much time to explore new recipes as I’d like, but I do get my foodie fix. Today I’d like to share with you some of my favorite Fall Flavors inspired by Disneyland – my “home park” growing up: Pumpkin Beignets from Disneyland’s most exclusive address: Club 33. You can find the recipe on the Disney Parks Blog. I’m looking forward to making these next weekend! We’re planning a day trip, and these will be a great grab-and-go breakfast. I might leave off the maple glaze to avoid sticky fingers in the car! Haunted Mansion – in cake! I’ve wanted to make this three-tiered cake for years, but haven’t had the opportunity – yet! Alex has chosen a haunted castle as his birthday...
