We didn’t watch a lot of sports when I was growing up. It just wasn’t a big thing in our family. But I do remember the Rose Bowl being on TV every New Years’ Day, and the winning quarterback always had a spot at the very end where he’d hold up the game ball or a trophy or something and yell “I’m going to Disneyland!

That was a long time ago, before there was such a thing as social media. But it planted a seed. Earlier this week, Disney invited seven stars of social media to come to Disneyland to highlight the new #DisneySide promotion. Sure, they’re getting some pretty influential people to talk about Disneyland, but I don’t really think that’s the point. Disneyland doesn’t need awareness – I don’t think there’s anybody who doesn’t know about Disneyland!

The whole #DisneySide campaign is really about the fans and our geekdom. It’s about us, and the places and characters we love. A lot of companies ignore the fandom because they don’t really know what to do with it. Disney has embraced it.

And here’s a grumpy cat video. Because it’s Thursday.

What do you think about the #DisneySide campaign? Have you sent in pictures or videos?
