With summer vacation rapidly approaching, it’s time to come up with activities to keep the kids entertained, without plugging them into TV and video games all day long – especially during the worst of the heat and humidity, when it’s downright dangerous to be outside for too long. In our family, coming up with games that appeal to everyone can be tricky. My daughter wants to play pretend, but – shockingly – her brothers can only take so much princesses and fairies before they revolt.

Disney has come up with a great solution: Zarina, the Pirate Fairy! Just like Tinker Bell, Zarina is curious and adventurous – and she’s a big fan of glittery Pixie Dust! Recently, I put The Pirate Fairy movie on for my daughter, and one by one, the boys migrated into the living room to watch with her. Any movie that appeals as much to 10- and 12-year-old boys as it does to their 6-year old sister is destined to be a classic, at least in our house!

The fun doesn’t end with the final credits, either. I was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to review two items from the Pirate Fairy play collection.

First, if you’re going to play pirate fairies, you have to dress the part! Zarina’s Pixie Pirate Dress is lightweight and easy for a little girl to put on by herself – and best of all, it comes with a set of wings! This costume is perfect for summer, because it’s shorter than the princess costume dresses, and has light cap sleeves. The wings are small enough that they aren’t cumbersome, and could even work for a day at the Disney Parks. Mom and Dad, no worries about your little girl’s wings hitting other guests.

For quieter Pirate Fairy play, there’s The Pirate Fiary 9″ Tink Doll. She comes with detachable fairy wings and a pirate outfit. Tink’s head, hands, elbows, and knees are all positionable, giving little girls plenty of options for posing and expression. This doll is the perfect size to bring along to summer activities or on road trips. My daughter played with her for several hours straight on the road home from Chicago!
