A Grand Floridian Christmas Party
Welcome to those of you joining me from Magical Mouse Schoolhouse and those of you just hopping aboard. I am the 2nd stop on our Magical Blogorail. This month we’re celebrating the holidays at home – Disney-style. Since I won’t be resort-hopping this December (as much as I’m tempted to run away from all the planning and shopping and preparation sometimes!), I decided to throw a Grand Floridian Christmas party!
Make a Grand Floridian Gingerbread House
The gingerbread house at the Grand Floridian Resort is truly legendary. My gingerbread house won’t be quite this elaborate! I’ve actually never made a real gingerbread house – the ones we did in elementary school, with graham crackers, don’t count. Every Christmas, I decide I want to create one of these amazingly beautiful pieces of artwork, but somehow I always end up too busy, too tired, too stressed out to actually do it. I have collected some ideas for inspiration on Pinterest – which one to choose??
Decorate a Grand Floridian Christmas Tree
I’ve always loved Victorian Christmas decorations. There’s something comfortingly elegant, yet authentic, about them. Victorian Christmas decorations were typically handmade, and often reflected themes in nature. While our family hasn’t put up our main Christmas tree (yet!) I did take a few minutes this week to decorate a small tree for my office, in true Victorian style:
Serve a Citricos-Inspired Christmas Dinner
No party is complete without food! This Gluten-Free Christmas Dinner menu is inspired by Citricos, one of the Signature Dining restaurants at the Grand Floridian Resort. Citricos specializes in American and Mediterranean cuisine, and I chose it for two reasons: First, unlike Victoria & Alberts, children are welcome at Citricos, and Christmas is about the whole family. Second, coming just a few weeks after Thanksgiving, I like to mix things up a bit from the traditional New England turkey and stuffing fare.
Selection of cheeses
Buffalo Mozzarella and Heirloom Tomatoes in Balsamic Vinaigrette
Madeira-braised short ribs with Hominy-Cheddar Potato Purée and Wild Mushroom Ragoût
Tiramisu (I’ll use gluten-free ladyfingers) and espresso
