Favorite Disney Holiday Plus
Welcome to those of you joining me from Magical Mouse Schoolhouse and those of you just hopping aboard. I am the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, Final stop on our Magical Blogorail. This month we’re talking about our favorite Disney holiday “plus” – celebrations, events, and other things Disney does to make the holidays over the top.
Simply being at Disneyland or Walt Disney World would be enough to make any holiday amazing. Disney takes the holidays to the extreme, with events like Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, which includes a magical snowfall in the middle of Florida.
Unfortunately, being at the Disney Parks over the holidays also means crowds. Really thick, dense crowds. The type of crowds that give me instant panic attacks even when I’m not terrified of losing one of the kids. There’s something about a mass of humanity that puts me into sensory overload – the thousand different voices, the constantly shifting landscape of bodies, and the expectation that once I’m to the front of the line I need to hurry up and have whatever experience I’ve just stood in line for, because there are a hundred people behind me all waiting for their turns. “Stressful” doesn’t even begin to cover my particular relationship with crowds. I’m more of a take your time and experience things at your own pace kind of person.
So what could Disney do to take my holiday celebration over the top? For me the big holiday plus would have to be Dreaming of a Disney Christmas, a little extra something from Disney Floral and Gifts. I imagine arriving at our resort room after a long day of travel to see the door decorated (and of course, this being Disney, we’re not talking about cheap plastic pictures held up with double-sided tape). We open the door to see the dark room glowing with luminaries, evoking memories of tiptoeing downstairs on Christmas morning to see the tree all lit up in the quiet darkness. And then, our eyes travel around the room to the bed, where we find Mickey and Minnie waiting for us bearing gifts to make the rest of our vacation even more special.
Then, especially if we’d be at the parks on Christmas Eve, we’d need a boost of magic. While we’re out at the parks, I’d arrange for Disney Floral and Gifts to set up Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Tree in our room – because of course I would have prepped the kids for the fact that if we’re spending Christmas at Walt Disney World, we won’t do things like decorating a Christmas tree!
My favorite Disney holiday “plus” is quiet, personal, and just for the family – and every bit as magical and over the top as anything else Disney does!
