Disney with Friends
Welcome to everyone visiting today from the Babes in Disneyland blog hop! Today we’re talking about friendship, and that got me thinking back to another life, when I hung out at Disneyland with my friends instead of my kids!
Growing up in Southern California, I’m sure my friends and I visited Disneyland several times during the late 80’s and 90’s, but two times really stick out in my memory:
Sometime during Junior High, my best friend’s parents took the two of us to Disneyland for her birthday. This trip really stuck with me, not because of the park but because we spent the night in the Disneyland Hotel. It was my first experience with a Disney resort and I was hooked! I’ve always loved hotels, and my pre-teen self was thoroughly impressed by the official hotel of Disneyland. Walking from our room past the pool to the monorail station was the height of inclusive convenience and luxury. I guess it’s no shocker that 25 years later I still love the Disney resort hotels.
By the time I hit high school, Disneyland was decidedly Boring. Uncool. For little kids. (Ok, I still loved Main St. USA but don’t tell anyone!) When our senior class was invited to Disney’s Grad Nite, I had my doubts. Could spending the night at Disneyland really be all that great? Ok, it was. It was the first time I got a glimpse of what Disney could offer beyond Mickey Mouse and the Teacups. Of course I went (everybody was going, and I didn’t want to miss out), and really did have a blast. That was the last time I visited a Disney park before our trip with the kids in 2010. I’m glad I had that night, one last fling before college and adulthood and responsibilities began to seriously impede my ability to call a few friends and go to Disneyland for the day!
Finally . . . A Trip with my Best Friend
