Master Packing List

Recently, I started blogging again at Living at the Speed of Life, where I write about household management, cooking, homeschooling, and other stuff. I’d like to invite you over for a cup of coffee, and today is a great time do do that because I’m writing about travel – specifically making sure everyone packs what they need. We travel fairly frequently, usually on weekend trips to visit family. To streamline the process, I’ve created a master packing list. A few days before we leave, I print out six copies – one for each member of the family. This way, the kids can pack their own bags, leaving me free to handle other details. This list was invaluable when I was getting this family prepped for our trip to Disney, so I’d like to share it with you. Here’s my master packing list, with notes and a printable version. The original...

Virtual Vacation: Going to Paris!

It’s Virtual Vacation Wednesday! These posts are all fantasy, a little fun and relaxation in the middle of the week. Most of the time, planning is half the fun but this week what I really needed from my virtual vacation was to just go and let somebody else do the thinking. So I showed up on one of my favorite blogger’s virtual doorstep and said “It’s been a long week….we’re going to Disneyland!” Manda lives in Scotland and writes about Disneyland Paris Manda’s Disney Blog. ************* Here’s our girls’ weekend in Disneyland Paris ************* So Tricia turns up on my doorstep with 2 day 2 Park Disneyland Paris tickets! (I would always go for longer, but to keep this virtual vacation from turning into a book … I’m sticking with a 2 day trip! 😛 ) Let the virtual vacation begin! I’ve been instructed that money is no object with my...

Bringing Disney Home

Disney Artwork in the Mailbox!

A couple of months ago, Bill and I signed up to watch a video on Disney’s new Hawaii resort, Aulani. I really did intend to write a review of it, but never did! The short version is – the resort looks like it will be wonderful (of course), and the behind the scenes peek was kind of interesting. I’m still not totally sold on the Disney Vacation Club, and the prices for the Hawaii resort are a little insane. All in all, nice to dream about during those “What if we won the lottery” conversations, but nothing too exciting. Fun to watch though, if you’re a Disney travel video geek like me! Then Bill brought the mail to the hospital for me to look through. There’s a white tube from Disney! I opened it up to find a signed lithograph of Mickey, Donald, and Goofy catching a killer wave:...

Ditching Park Hopper

When we went to Disney World in 2010, we added the Park Hopper option to our tickets. We had grand plans of doing one park in the morning, going back to the resort for a swim after lunch, then doing another park in the late afternoon/evening. I guess we forgot for a moment that we were travelling with four young kids! Our other thought was that with Park Hopper, we wouldn’t be restricted in our choice of dining spots. We could spend the day at Magic Kingdom then go to EPCOT for lunch or dinner. That’s not quite how it worked out. In reality, We chose a park in the morning, and by lunchtime all we wanted to do was go back to our room for an afternoon rest/nap. We got up in time for dinner and sometimes fireworks, sometimes just a little wandering around, then back to the...

Magic Moments

It’s Thursday again, and that means it’s Blog Hop Day! Thanks to Lisa of Babes in Disneyland for hosting, and Manda of Manda’s Disney Blog for cohosting. This week’s theme is Magic Moments! I’ve given this one a lot of thought. What is the one moment from our trip that was magical? Ok, that’s not going to happen. There were so many magical moments! So I thought I’d share my very first magical moment. I’m sorry, I don’t have a picture to illustrate it, but there are some moments that you will remember all your life, whether the camera was handy or not. My very first magical Disney moment happened before we even made it out of the airport. It was late, the kids were excited and tired and jumpy from sitting still for the three hour plane flight. We power walked through the airport to the Magical Express...
