Should I Drive or Fly to the Walt Disney World Resort?

It’s one of those big questions that comes up once in a while on Disney-related forums, and it’s one that has to be answered before every new trip: How are we going to get there? We’ve done both, and I’ll tell you which one I prefer, but first I’ll lay out a list of pros and cons to each. Before we begin, I should let you know that we live in Illinois, about 1200 miles from the Magic Kingdom. If you live closer, or father away, this list might look different for you. Flying to the Walt Disney World Resort – Pros Speed. Flying is definitely faster than driving, but it’s not exactly quick. The flight from Chicago to Orlando only takes about 2 1/2 hours, but once you consider the time to drive to the airport (about 30 minutes, unless there’s traffic), getting through security (1-2 hours), and...

Pirate Fairy Play Day

Disclaimer: I received items to review free of cost from Walt Disney Consumer Products. The opinions expressed in this review are my own. With summer vacation rapidly approaching, it’s time to come up with activities to keep the kids entertained, without plugging them into TV and video games all day long – especially during the worst of the heat and humidity, when it’s downright dangerous to be outside for too long. In our family, coming up with games that appeal to everyone can be tricky. My daughter wants to play pretend, but – shockingly – her brothers can only take so much princesses and fairies before they revolt. Disney has come up with a great solution: Zarina, the Pirate Fairy! Just like Tinker Bell, Zarina is curious and adventurous – and she’s a big fan of glittery Pixie Dust! Recently, I put The Pirate Fairy movie on for my...

A Mom’s Virtual Vacation at Walt Disney World

Welcome to those of you joining me from DISTherapy and those of you just hopping aboard. I am the 3rd stop on our Magical Blogorail. This month we’re celebrating Mother’s Day with our favorite Mom-approved Disney experiences.  When I think of celebrating Mother’s Day, what really comes to mind is a day where somebody else takes over all the responsibilities of being Mom while I get to sit back and just play and enjoy my family. And who is better at that than Disney? For my Mother’s Day virtual vacation at Walt Disney World, I have two requirements: I get to choose the restaurants, and nobody is allowed to complain – about anything!   This virtual vacation is all about taking it easy – not something I get to do very often! To make that happen, we’ll stay at Disney’s Polynesian resort. Every time I walk into the lobby...

Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann: the Perfect Disney Couple

Welcome to those of you joining me from DISTherapy and those of you just hopping aboard. I am the 4th stop on our Magical Blogorail. This month we’re discussing the ideal Disney couples. To me, that means a couple that can go beyond the first blush, and can keep sweeping each other off their feet for years to come. I’ve gone to Port Royal to bring you Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann: the perfect Disney couple. Captain Jack Sparrow is the over the top star of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, but if you dig a little deeper, you’ll see that the story is really all about Elizabeth Swann and her true love, Will Turner. Elizabeth Swann behaves like a proper English lady, but she’s not afraid to stand up to a crew full of undead pirates and bully her way through just about anyone to rescue...

Changes to FastPass+ System at Walt Disney World

Tom Staggs, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, announced the next phase of the MyMagic+ program. Guests staying off-property will soon be able to take advantage of the My Disney Experience app, and all guests will be able to reserve more than three FastPass+ selections. Here’s the important thing about this announcement: it shouldn’t come as a shock to anyone. If Disney is known for anything, it’s for listening to its guests and giving them – us! – exactly what we want in a dream vacation. They’re also known for innovation, especially when it comes to family vacation experiences. Before Disney, there was no such thing as a theme park – and at the time, there were quite a few outspoken people who thought the whole thing was a horrible idea that would forever destroy life as they knew it. I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty...
