The Best Cup of Coffee at Walt Disney World

Happy Friday! Welcome to the Disney Foodie Blog Hop. Today we’re talking about our favorite Disney-inspired hot beverages. I think that’s a fitting theme, considering it’s a whopping THREE degrees outside as I write this! Welcome to January in Illinois. This morning I’d like to sit down and share a great cup of coffee with you. For our first breakfast at Walt Disney World, we made ADRs at Kona Cafe in the Polynesian Resort. We chose this spot for one reason: the French Press coffee. I’ll admit, I’m a coffee snob. Ok, I’m a snob about a lot of things, but we won’t go there! I really, really hate bad coffee – the kind you get at a lot of restaurants. The kind that was brewed weak to begin with, then left to sit for hours on a warming burner, so by the time it gets to your table you’ve...

Fall Flavors of Disneyland

Those of you who have read Return to Disney for a while have probably picked up on my love of really good food. I don’t have as much time to explore new recipes as I’d like, but I do get my foodie fix. Today I’d like to share with you some of my favorite Fall Flavors inspired by Disneyland – my “home park” growing up: Pumpkin Beignets from Disneyland’s most exclusive address: Club 33. You can find the recipe on the Disney Parks Blog. I’m looking forward to making these next weekend! We’re planning a day trip, and these will be a great grab-and-go breakfast. I might leave off the maple glaze to avoid sticky fingers in the car! Haunted Mansion – in cake! I’ve wanted to make this three-tiered cake for years, but haven’t had the opportunity – yet! Alex has chosen a haunted castle as his birthday...

Bringing Disney Home

Welcome to Foodie Friday!

Thank Goofy It’s Friday – and it’s time to relax, enjoy a good meal, and recapture a little of the magic that gets lost in the chaos of the week. This is the first post in a series I’m calling Foodie Friday, where I’ll share my other first love – cooking – with a healthy dose of Disney thrown in for fun! On the menu today: Alfredo a la Epcot! The inspiration for this dish was served at L’Originale ALfredo di Roma Ristorante, which used to be located in the Italy pavilion at Epcot. The restaurant closed in August, 2007, but you can still enjoy their signature dish at home. This recipe is a little different from any other alfredo I’ve made. Most fettuccini alfredo sauces are made with cream. This sauce is made with nothing but butter and parmesan cheese! I’ve added my own touches with carrots, snow...

Tonga Toast at Home

I’m a foodie. I’ll admit it. I’m that crazy woman that collects (and reads!) culinary school textbooks. My kitchen is overflowing with cookbooks. And since Lisa of Babes in Disneyland showed the view from her kitchen, I thought I’d give you a peek into mine as well: When it came time to choose a souvenir from our first trip to Walt Disney World, the choice was pretty easy…especially with a certain husband practically shoving me toward the kitchen display at our resort’s gift shop! When I saw that today’s Blog Hop theme was food, I knew it was time to unveil the first in a new post series I’ve been working on: Disney Inspired Recipes! Today’s post: Tonga Toast at Home. There are only four ingredients for this recipe – just sourdough bread, bananas, cinnamon, and sugar. First, slice the bananas in fourths. First slice crosswise, then lengthwise to produce relatively...
