Virtual Vacation: Going to Paris!

It’s Virtual Vacation Wednesday! These posts are all fantasy, a little fun and relaxation in the middle of the week. Most of the time, planning is half the fun but this week what I really needed from my virtual vacation was to just go and let somebody else do the thinking. So I showed up on one of my favorite blogger’s virtual doorstep and said “It’s been a long week….we’re going to Disneyland!” Manda lives in Scotland and writes about Disneyland Paris Manda’s Disney Blog. ************* Here’s our girls’ weekend in Disneyland Paris ************* So Tricia turns up on my doorstep with 2 day 2 Park Disneyland Paris tickets! (I would always go for longer, but to keep this virtual vacation from turning into a book … I’m sticking with a 2 day trip! 😛 ) Let the virtual vacation begin! I’ve been instructed that money is no object with my...

Ditching Park Hopper

When we went to Disney World in 2010, we added the Park Hopper option to our tickets. We had grand plans of doing one park in the morning, going back to the resort for a swim after lunch, then doing another park in the late afternoon/evening. I guess we forgot for a moment that we were travelling with four young kids! Our other thought was that with Park Hopper, we wouldn’t be restricted in our choice of dining spots. We could spend the day at Magic Kingdom then go to EPCOT for lunch or dinner. That’s not quite how it worked out. In reality, We chose a park in the morning, and by lunchtime all we wanted to do was go back to our room for an afternoon rest/nap. We got up in time for dinner and sometimes fireworks, sometimes just a little wandering around, then back to the...

Avoid Overheating at Disney

Florida gets hot. Miserably, sticky, HOT. The weather is one of those background things that you might not take into consideration before you arrive, but once you’re there it’s hard to escape it. We planned for the weather only to the extent that I packed shorts for the boys and sundresses for my princess. We bought a camel pack (which we promptly forgot at home. Whoops.) to stay hydrated. Unfortunately, simply dressing for the weather and drinking plenty of water wasn’t enough. Several members of our family are extremely sensitive to heat, and I dehydrate at the drop of a hat. Luckily, there were plenty of ways at Disney World to get out of the heat and avoid meltdowns. Safety First Overheating and dehydration are not things you can just live with. At least for our family, moderate discomfort can escalate into full-on heat stroke in a heartbeat. Carry water...

Special Diets on the Disney Dining Plan

For our family at least, Disney restaurants are a big part of the vacation. As you found out last Foodie Friday, I do love to cook! But I’ll admit, I love eating out too. It’s a huge luxury for me to sit back, relax, and let someone else handle the details – and the dishes! But like everything else, eating out isn’t exactly simple with our family. One of our boys has a nut allergy. Thankfully, his is not severe, and he can be around nuts as long as he doesn’t eat them and avoiding nuts is usually not too difficult. I still have to ask, every time we eat out, every time he has a snack at Cub Scouts, every time we eat dinner with another family – “Does anything here have nuts in it?” Usually when I ask that question in a restaurant, the server pauses for...

Virtual Vacation: Romantic Weekend Away

It’s Wednesday. Middle of the week. I’ve gotten a ton of stuff done, and have another ton waiting to be done, so today I decided I needed a break. I am declaring today Virtual Vacation day! Today’s virtual vacation theme is a romantic weekend away. I’ll tell you a secret: I really like this guy I married! I miss those long days back in college when we spent nearly every waking hour hanging out together. Then the reality hammer struck, we got jobs, we had kids….then we had more kids…in short, we got responsibilities by the truckload. All that responsibility – while I wouldn’t change a thing – kind of cuts into our long romantic walks time! So today, I’m pulling out the virtual credit card and booking an impromptu weekend at the most magical place on Earth. And since this is a virtual vacation, I’m pulling out all the...
