Happy Birthday Mickey!

Welcome to our Mickey Mouse Birthday Party Blog Hop! This year Mickey Mouse will be turning 83 and we thought it would be fun to all celebrate with our little ones. I’m bringing a craft to the party today. You can find links to the other party ideas at the end of this post. As I was looking around the web for some fun activities, I decided to feature one for each age group: preschoolers, elementary school age, and teens. “Use words, Mickey” It’s NOT Wordless Wednesday.

Every mother longs to hear her child’s first words. Some moms wait longer than others – autism often affects the speech centers of the brain, and children who are affected can have speech delays or be completely non-verbal. (Although not all children on the autism spectrum have speech problems – some, like my oldest, are quite articulate. Others speak, but need reminders sometimes.) This week, Walt Disney World ran a very limited test of talking Mickey at Town Square Theater. The first time I saw this video on the Disney Parks Blog my first thought was “He used words!” I knew I had to share this, in support of all those kids who finally, after months or years of silence, use their words too. I hope this program comes out of its limited test and is available to everyone by the time we return! Pin It
