Expedition Everest — Legend of the Forbidden Mountain

I’m taking over Tricia’s blog today while she has Returned to Disney, so let’s pop over to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park for a wild adventure on one of my favorite attractions in all of Walt Disney World Resort. Expedition Everest—Legend of the Forbidden Mountain was added to Disney’s Animal Kingdom in 2006, bringing a second weinie to the Park and giving thrill seekers a reason to visit. It also helped reinforce the Park’s claim that it is most definitely “NotAZoo.” After all, what zoo features a 199-foot tall mountain range, a 50-mph train, and a real Yeti? Disney Parks weinies are the things that are symbolic of each park – Cinderella Castle, Tree of Life, Spaceship Earth are some others. The word is one of Walt’s own! He described those things/buildings/symbols as being as integral to a theme park as hot dogs (or as he called them, weinies). This...

Riding the Rails: Trains at Walt Disney World

Welcome to those of you joining me from Can Do It Mom aka Mouse Fan Diane and those of you just hopping aboard. I am the 8th stop on our Magical Blogorail. Riding the Rails: Trains at Walt Disney World For this special edition Magical Blogorail loop, we’re talking about all the ways you can get around the 47 square miles that comprise the Walt Disney World Resort. I jumped at that chance to share my favorite way to get around the Magic Kingdom: The Walt Disney World Railroad! Trains are kind of a big deal in our family. Not that every child on the autism spectrum is a train fanatic, but a lot of them are, including my two boys. If Walt Disney were still alive, he and my kids would get along quite well, I think! I love the Walt Disney World Railroad for two big reasons:...

How David Met Sarah: A Special Love Story

Sometimes the most ordinary things in the world are the most beautiful – it just takes a special person to show it. Much of what I write about here are ordinary things: a family vacation, a ride at an amusement park. It took some very special kids to show me how amazing, how beautiful those things can be. How David Met Sarah is the story of the most ordinary, beautiful thing in the world: boy meets girl and they fall in love. It’s a story as old as humanity itself. What makes this story beautiful are the characters. David is a 24 year old man with Down Syndrome. He first notices Sarah, “the girl of his dreams,” in the diner where he eats breakfast every day. Like many young men, he spends the next several weeks in a fog trying to figure out how to meet her, how to...

Space Mountain – A Galaxy of Twists, Turns, and Drops!

Welcome to those of you joining me from My Dreams of Disney and those of you just hopping aboard. I am the final stop on our Magical Blogorail. For this very special edition, our kids are taking over the Blogorail, and sharing their favorite ride or attraction at Disney parks. Today my oldest son, Will, talks about his favorite ride: Space Mountain! Space Mountain’s awesome! If I had to explain it in one word it would be: ZOOM! I really like the futuristic looking train, but you’ll never guess how fast it goes! 3o mph. Not the fastest I must admit. But it feels like you’re going warp speed. The train it self  looks like a spaceship. The track seems to take you on a joyride through the galaxy. First you go under a control tower. Then you go through a blue #8217;s when the fun begins. Then suddenly you’re literally dropped into a galaxy of twists, turns, and drops! Even the...
