Happy Birthday Mickey!

Mickey's Birthday Blog Hop

Welcome to our Mickey Mouse Birthday Party Blog Hop! This year Mickey Mouse will be turning 83 and we thought it would be fun to all celebrate with our little ones. I’m bringing a craft to the party today. You can find links to the other party ideas at the end of this post.

As I was looking around the web for some fun activities, I decided to feature one for each age group: preschoolers, elementary school age, and teens. Since they have the shortest attention spans, we’ll start with the little ones! (And as a warning, while I may have started these out with instructions on DisneyFamily.com, like everything else I do I end up changing it around in the end.)

Mickey Mousepad Craft for Preschoolers

According to the instructions, you simply cut out the Mickey hand template, trace it onto a plain cloth mousepad and fill in with fabric paint. Most preschoolers I know would need quite a bit of adult help with the tracing, so why not personalize the project and trace or stamp their own hands instead? You can then trace the glove template around the child’s handprint, or position it to look like the child and Mickey are holding hands.

Mickey Mouse Ears for Older Kids

This is a cute accessory for girls, but I don’t see my elementary aged boys walking around with a headband on! According to the official instructions, the ears are made of stiff felt glued onto a black headband. For the boys, I would glue or sew the ears onto a black baseball cap or knit snow cap.

The teenagers at the party may have grown out of arts and crafts, but this is a project I think will challenge them (because I know it would challenge me!) This is also the only project I’m not going to tweak and change and improve upon. The full instructions and printable template are on the DisneyFamily.com website.
